This weed came up in the desert
Out of the rocks, born on a cold night
Fragile and heroic
A thorny little thing, aching towards the light
My roots dug down clutching stones
I stretched my branches and sunned my leaves
My core grew stronger, thank you
Despite the restlessness awakened in me
The rocks will talk if you listen
They want to play, be held, and be seen
They litter our page with stars and crossroads
More whole if we follow their lead
I came to a sudden juncture
Laid bare, all normalcy stripped away
A quiet burning descended upon me
I met myself, I wanted to play
There is no way to describe
It is mythic and outside of time
Blown open, exposed, exhausted
I come away charged with life
Spontaneous sacrifice
Darkness and new light
Virtuous deviance
From the bland perfection of former times
Some awe, some fear
Both understood and unknown (reckless control)
The left hand and the right
Fully intertwined
I became part of a crystalline cluster
Clinging to our-self in that strange and beautiful way
Growing in and out in all directions
An unassuming straggler wanting to play
Vulnerable and safe
Oh to be among the stones
And find another sort of home
To ride inside a massive wave
The bravery astounds me
This gray is where things begin
Where things refuse to stay the same
Where tended weeds
Grow fierce and tame
It was a gift
I’m glad I came
There is no way to describe
It is mythic and outside of time
Blown open, exposed, exhausted
I come away charged with life
Not knowing who I am
Not caring
I am so glad I came
It was a gift
